Volunteers of the German Cleft Children’s Aid Society

Chairperson of the board

Dr. Dr. Heinz Lübbe
Prof. Dr. Dr. Heinz Lübbe (honorary professor at the University of Bangalore) was a self-employed oral and maxillofacial surgeon for the greater part of his professional career. He lives in Stuttgart and was for many years the vice-president of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Mund-, Kiefer-, und Gesichtschirurgie (German Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery). For more than seven years he is now the voluntary chairperson of the board of the German Cleft Children’s Aid Society and is committed to the worldwide development of sustainable projects for the aid of children with cleft lips and palates. The second member of the board (full-time) is Alexander Gross, who is the managing director of the German Cleft Children’s Aid Society.

Supervisory board

The German Cleft Children’s Aid Society’s supervisory board consists of three voluntary members. The body of the society, as set forth in the statutes, checks and advises the chairperson and in particular has control over the administration of the assets of the society. The members of the board are oral and maxillofacial surgeon and carrier of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany Prof. Dr. Dr. Jürgen Dieckmann, economist and tax consultant Dr. Christian Rüsch and the financially very adept former bank manager Ute Henninger-Sehling.

Curatorship

The curatorship of the German Cleft Children’s Aid Society is a voluntary expert committee helping to internationally promote and develop the medical-professional orientation of our work. All members have considerable experience and are recognised for their work in the treatment of cleft lips and palates.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Götz Ehmann
Prof. Dr. Dr. Götz Ehmann is a former senior consultant of the Barmbek (Hamburg) General Hospital and is for years now committed to helping cleft children in Africa. The energy of this oral and maxillofacial surgeon has not diminished one bit since he went into retirement: every year he helps to advance the training of his colleagues in Cameroon.

Dr. Dr. Oliver Blume
Dr. Dr. Oliver Blume, experienced resident oral and maxillofacial surgeon from Munich, dedicates himself to the grave suffering which children with a cleft deformity have to endure. To enable treatment for the poorest of the poor is what drives Oliver Blume: together with Gunther Au-Balbach he trains surgeons of cleft lips and palates in Rwanda (and formerly also in Uganda).

Prof. Dr. Frank Feyerherd
Prof. Dr. Frank Feyerherd, senior consultant at the University of Greifswald, has been working voluntary in a team together with Götz Ehmann towards the improvement in the treatment of cleft children in Cameroon. The experienced anaesthesiologist has already had the opportunity to pass on his experiences to his African colleagues on several educational missions.

Dr. Gunther Au-Balbach
The oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Gunther Au-Balbach treats cleft patients as well as victims of traffic accidents and violence at his practice in Solingen. For years he is now active in charitable work in his free time, and - working in a team with Oliver Blume - is involved in the training of African physicians in cleft surgery.
