In the Philippines we are supporting the surgery of children with cleft lips and palates on Mindanao, the second largest island which lies in the south of the archipelago. Our contract partner is the XU Community Health Care Center in Cagayan de Oro which is run by the Committee of German Doctors. Here the surgeon Dr. Abe Mendoza worked for us until the spring of 2011; since summer this work is taken over by the surgeons Dr. Rachel A. Saracho, Dr. Dejos and Dr. Abelleara. Our contact partner is the administrative director of the Health Care Center, Dietmar Schug, who has been living on Mindanao for more than ten years.

The little boy, Jaybee, who is part of our letterhead, was successfully operated by Dr. Abe Mendoza in the XU Community Health Care Center in Cagayan de Oro.

On Mindanao there is an especially high number of cleft children. Our chairperson Dr. Dr. Heinz Lübbe provided on-site dental treatment for six weeks prior to the start of the project. He was surprised by the large number of affected children. At the same time lots of families are so poor that they cannot afford the surgery of their children. Currently we are lacking the funds to expand our project. Join us in our help so that we can perform surgery on more children and to treat them more comprehensively with the inclusion of ENT-specialists, orthodontists and speech therapy.
